Johan van Hengel
Johan van Hengel is a furniture and product designer, based in Rotterdam. He studied Industrial Product Design at The Hague University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands. Johan launched his own studio in 2013 with furniture, lighting and everyday objects. He is a problem solver by nature and training. Because of his logical and investigative approach he creates everyday objects with new layers of sophistication, individuality and meaning. His designs are always focused on function, materiality and technique, and have a subtle element of surprise. For HAY, he designed the The 30Degrees lampshade.
